Overview
MIT Central Library since its inception has played an important role in catering the needs of its users. With the advent of science and technology and with the changes in the information-seeking behavior of the user, the library has played an important role to meet their needs using the latest technologies. The state-of-the-art library, located at the heart of the campus, has a rich print and online collection. The library is RFID enabled hence securing the library collection and enhancing the quick circulation of books. All e-resources can be accessed remotely using Open Athens account (Single Sign On). One cannot deny that MIT has one of the finest libraries in the field of engineering in the country and is committed to provide quality service to its clients.
Library Building with a access controlled entrance occupies a total area of about 70,000 sq.ft. and has three floors having the individual and group study halls with 950 seating capacity. Library provides services to MIT (Manipal Institute of Technology), SOIS (School of Information Science), ICAS (International Centre for Applied Science), DAMP (Department of Atomic & Molecular Physics) having more than 10,000 active users. The entire library is Wi-Fi enabled and has a security system with CCTV in all the floors. Library is fully automated with KOHA software and collections are RFID tagged. Library offers many research support services like Grammarly, a grammar-checking software and Turnitin, a plagiarism-checking software.
Open Library an extended reading facility is newly introduced, a few general and technical books are kept here for reading with open access. The section remains open 24x7.

Library Users
Central Library MIT is open for the Faculty, Staff and Students of the following institutions of MAHE at Manipal.
- Manipal Institute of Technology
- Manipal School of Information Science
- Department of Atomic and Molecular Physics
- International Centre for Applied Sciences
Alumni of above institutions and Spouse/Children of Faculty/ staff members are allowed to use the reading facilities of the library with the approval of higher authorities.
Libary Rules and Regulations
- All the students are requested to bring their MAHE ID cards while coming to library and the same must be swiped at the library entrance. It must be produced while borrowing books and also to be shown to the library staff if asked for identification.
- Users are advised not to keep their valuable things in the property counter or reading hall. The library accepts no responsibility for the loss or damage of any materials so left in property counter or inside the reading halls.
- Personal books, files, printed materials and bags are not permitted to bring in the lending section of the library. They may be left in the property counter.
- Borrowing and returning of books must be done through the windows of the circulation counter.
- Books, journals, etc. taken from the shelves for reading should be used with care and left on the tables after use and ‘not’ to be replaced on the shelves.
- Users should not reserve any seats either for themselves or for others by leaving library material or personal things on a reading table.
- Loss or damage to library material on loan to a user should be reported immediately. The user must pay the cost of replacing a lost or seriously damaged book or other item; in addition to that he/she has to pay the fine.
- Users should behave in a decent way and should follow the dress code prescribed by MAHE and must not damage library property or disturb other users.
- Books issued from the lending section cannot be returned on the same day.
- Mutilation and disfiguring of pages of books are strictly prohibited. A person shall be held responsible for any damage done to the documents of the library.
- Group discussion is permitted only in the Group Discussion Hall (II Floor) and III floor of library building.
- The lending procedure for various users is as follows:
- Faculty - Total 8 books for one Semester.
- Staff - Total 2 books for one Semester.
- Under Graduate and Post Graduate - Total 4 books for 14 days.
For students if books are not returned after the due date a fine of Rs.2=00 per day is levied.
- Notices, handouts or related material may only be displayed in the Library with the approval of the Librarian
